Why Internet Marketing is NOT Driving Traffic! Know the Difference and Become a Marketer

From what I’ve seen, most people mistake “Internet Marketing” for “Traffic Generation” and think they’re actually “marketing” when in fact they’re only generating visitors to a website.

These 2 concepts are completely different, and in this article I’m going to explain to you that difference.

Let’s begin with the first one, “Internet Marketing.”

The one main, critical thing you can’t forget at all costs is what ‘marketing’ really is. Take a moment and think about that, like really think. What – to you – is ‘marketing’?

If you boil it down to the core, Marketing is finding a group of people that have a shared problem, then find the answer to that problem and give it to them. Give that group of people the solution to their problem.

I know this may sound basic, but a lot a times people forget about this entirely (me included!). Instead of focusing on giving people what they want, they get distracted by any number of things: making money, creating websites, making everything perfect, waiting for the right time, spending time doing things that don’t apply to what they’re doing…

There’s so many distractions out there, but that first one from above, ‘making money’, is probably the biggest one. And I say that because when the focus of your efforts is on making money, you lose focus of what you’re doing, which is to provide people with solutions to their problems. That’s marketing, and by marketing and providing value to people, the money will follow.

Now, on the other hand, there’s “traffic generation.” To drive traffic to a website, you simply put out content that makes people want to visit your site. To do this, there’s article marketing, video marketing, forum marketing, social media marketing, banners/ads, PPC, press releases, and tons more. But, traffic generation is simply the act of getting people to your website. Marketing is a whole other beast entirely.

To further illustrate this, let me ask you something: if you put in the time to write articles and make videos to get all these people to your site, and they DO go to your site, but they don’t like what they see or your message isn’t strong enough, or something else happens to make them leave… And they end up taking no action… Does it benefit you at all?

No. It doesn’t.

What’s the whole point of driving all of those visitors to your website if they don’t take an action when they get there? You’re driving them to your site to fill out a form, opt in to a list, make a comment, or some specific action. If your marketing is terrible and they end up leaving, you’ve wasted your time.

That’s how “traffic” is different from “marketing.” To maximize your efforts with generating leads into your business, it’s really necessary that you learn how to get those people, those possible leads, to take an action when they get to your site. Otherwise, you’re definitely wasting your time.

Hopefully by now you realize the difference between marketing and traffic generation. Both are necessary, but they work together to create a powerful campaign. One without the other results in wasted time and effort, and a lack of business growth.

You need to commit yourself to learning how to market to people, since that’s probably why your business is in a stand-still. Unless you know how to market to people; in which case, you need to learn the fundamentals of traffic generation and driving people to your website (specifically ‘targeted’ people).
